SPECIALTY LUBRICANTS

The performance of modern equipment is frequently limited by the inability of conventional oils and greases to provide adequate lubrication in tough and severe conditions such as under heavy load, at slow speed, at extremes of temperature, or when contaminated by dust or corrosive chemicals. As a result, the equipment manufacturer may be unable to apply new design concepts and operators may not be able to run existing machines at maximum capacity.

This is where specialty lubricants work most efficiently. They are designed to reduce friction and wear to extend lubrication periods and to minimize maintenance cost in the most critical applications.

They are available in size classes each having a different physical form:

Solid to semisolid materials consisting of a lubricating fluid, thickening agent and additives, used on rolling element bearings and other moving parts.

Based on hydro processed mineral oils, or synthetic base stocks such as polyalphaolefin (PAO) and esters, these lubricating fluids are fortified with carefully selected additives to lubricate hydraulic systems, compressors, vacuum pumps, gear and chains.

Grease-like materials containing a very high percentage of solid lubricants. Used for assembly and lubrication of highly loaded, slow moving parts for threaded fasteners.

Grease-like materials composed of silicone fluids and silica fillers. Used for their sealing, dielectric, non metal to metal lubricating and release properties on electrical equipment, insulars, bushes, high current switches, sealing valves, O rings & lubricating vacuum pressure systems.

Finely divided solid lubricants suspended in lubricating fluids preferred when it is necessary to apply solid lubricants in liquid form such as chains, conveyor, bearings, cutting machine blades, base plates, sewing machines, tools and dies, taps and drills, slides etc.

“Lubricating paints” when applied, these materials cure to form dry solid lubricant coatings that are bonded to the surface. Used mainly for long term ‘dry’ lubrication of precision parts, corrosion protection.
