POLYPROPYLENE (PP)

Polypropylene is the cheapest and lightest major plastic with a very high crystalline structure which results in finished articles having good gloss and high resistance to marring. It is noted for its excellent chemical resistance in corrosive environments. It is easy to weld using thermoplastic welding equipment and is often fabricated into water and chemical tanks.

Polypropylene is available in both homopolymer and copolymer grades.

Homopolymer PP is stronger and stiffer than copolymer and used mainly as a base plate for cutting in the paper and leather industry.

Copolymer PP is a bit softer, but it is tougher and more durable than homopolymer polypropylene. Copolymer polypropylene tends to have better stress crack resistance and low temperature toughness than homopolymer polypropylene.

  • High strength to weight ratio
  • High melting point, sterilization
  • Excellent electrical properties, chemical inertness and moisture resistance
  • Can be welded, thermoformed, easily fabricated
  • Food grade
  • Rigid, high impact strength
